FB Refresh Changes Facebook Login Background

If you like changing the background on Google you might also like changing it on on another site that you frequently visit; Facebook. While Facebook will probably roll out this feature itself in the next few million years, you can change backgrounds now with FB Refresh, a Chrome extension. The extension lets you change the background to any image hosted online.

Admittedly, Optimus Prime isn’t in this shot but you get how the extension works. This is how your login will look with the extension enabled. To change the background, install the extension and find yourself a wallpaper. Do not download it. Go to the extension’s options and copy and paste the URL of the image you’ve selected.

You can choose a simple pattern image as well and tile it by selecting the Repeat Horizontally or Vertically checkboxes. Each time you make a change in either the link or the tile (repeat) options, you will need to refresh the Facebook login page.

FaceWash App Scrubs Away Your Dirty Facebook History

FaceWash App Scrubs Away Your Dirty Facebook History:

Everyday we see tonnes of things that annoy us about Facebook, like photos of our friends’ ugly babies, chavvy status updates DAT SOUND LYK DIS and of course lots of over-sharing about illnesses, arguments and fertility issues. Really swear words are the least of our worries – in fact they make mundane updates just a tad bit more interesting – but if you’re offended by profanities.
While you can go ahead and try to clean everything up manually, it may be a bothersome and long winded process and the chance that you miss data is ever present.

Facewash is a new service that is scans your Facebook profile for you. Profile in this regard not only means what you have uploaded or published on the profile but also what others may have added to it via comments for instance.
The first thing you need to do to get started is to authorize the app to access data of your Facebook account including your stream but also personal information. Once done you are redirected to a website where you can start the scan of your profile. The app by default scans the following areas:

  • Comments posted on your wall
  • Comments on photos you are tagged in
  • Photos that you have posted
  • Links that you have liked
  • Photos that you have liked
  • Status updates you have posted
  • Pages that you are a fan of
The application uses its own word list to scan the various areas on Facebook. The developers do not reveal what the word list includes but mention that it “spans a broad spectrum of ‘dirtiness’ from sex to drugs to curse words and more”.
If English is not the main language that you communicate in on Facebook you may want to use the second option the app makes available. You can enter your own list of words that you want to scan your profile for. To do so enter a list of comma separated words and phrases and click on the start button afterwards.
The scan may take a couple of minutes either way depending much on your and your friend’s activity on Facebook. If you post once every year you are probably done in a couple of seconds, if you are a daily poster with lots of friends who do that too, you may wait more than a couple of minutes for the results to be displayed to you

20 Best iPhone Spy Apps

Ever imagined yourself as a character in a James Bond movie where the bad guys are lurking around corners waiting for the right opportunity to grab you and take you to their secret hideout? Okay, maybe not. But if you did, you’d probably have a lot of fun with today’s post, where we look looking into some apps made for spying with your iPhone.
Granted, having all of these apps on your iPhone will not make you a spy overnight – please don’t take it as challenge by us for you to behave that way – however, you might find some of the apps of the espionage kind here useful to you.
20 Best iPhone Spy Apps

The mission here, if you choose to accept it, is to hunt for your very own iPhone spy app from this list. Some apps will be more useful than others, while others are just for fun. Then, there are some apps only available in the US as they only work with US mobile numbers. Don’t ask us why this is so, we’d ask but we’ve got a feeling that if they told us, they’d have to kill us!.

Contact Spy

Not sure who is behind the unknown number who just called you? Save that number into your contact list and run it through this search engine app, where It will then try to find out who called you. This feature only works for US phone numbers.
However, you can enter the first and last name of anyone you don’t know, and the app will try to find out who that person is. Of course this won’t give you the best results if the person’s name is ‘John Doe’. [$0.99]
Contact Spy

Call Log Pro

This app records the voice conversations of phone calls to another person. You’ll have to use the app to call the person and it will only start recording once the person on the line answers the phone. You’ll then be able to email yourself the recording for safekeeping.
This app starts out free where you can record conversations for 2 minutes. After that, you’ll have to pay a minimum of $4.99 for 30 minutes of recording time. [Free]

Spy Gizmos

Spy Gizmos gives you a fun and secure way to communicate with your friends. You can use this app to cipher messages and send the coded message to your friends. Your friends who received the coded message can then use this app to find out what was really written.
There are 3 ciphering methods to choose from. You can also write in Morse code where the app can then transmit the sound or flash your screen white and black so that people around you can hear or see the message. [Free]

Self Destructing Message

Self Destructing Message (SDM) is a message app along the lines of Viber or Whatsapp. However, with this app you’ll be able to set ‘self destruct’ timers to your messages. Your friend will have 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 seconds to read the message that you sent. After that, the message ‘self destructs’ (gets deleted).
Because of this, there will be no chat history but it is a secure way to ensure no one else reads your messages. [Free]
Self Destructing Message

Your Secret Folder

This app acts like a secret folder to manage private photos and videos. It protects your files with either a 4 number PIN lock or a dot lock. The options they give you include taking a photo with the front camera when someone attempts to unlock the app. There is also the option to include a fake password.
Whenever this fake password is entered, functions to the app will be very limited, and whatever pictures taken with the app won’t be saved. [Free]

GPS Location Tracker

This is a location tracker app for your iPhone which doesn’t have to be running to track your phone. You have to register for an account on their website and have Location enabled on the iPhone in order for it to track your phone.
It also uses cellular data or Wi-Fi to upload the location information to a secure server on their website. If there is no cellular data or Wi-Fi available, the information will be stored on the phone until there is a connection available. [$3.99]

Spy Recorder

Spy Recorder is an audio-recording app which also helps you schedule reminders for recordings. The phone will vibrate and a notification will appear, prompting you to start recording. You can start recording by tapping on the notification.

Secret Voice

This is another voice-recording app but this app has a built-in web browser which you can use while it is recording. Besides that, you can enable a ‘Black-Screen Mode’ which prohibits activity on your phone, effectively tuning out any incoming calls or messages.
Recordings can be shared by email and are secured by a PIN code. There is also the option of recovery mode which allows you to recover accidentally deleted recordings. Without it, a delete stays permanent. [$0.99]
Secret Voice

Night Recorder

Launch this app and hit the ON button to begin. It will only start audio recording when there is a loud enough sound. When the iPhone screen is off, you can launch the app by pressing the iPhone power button.
It has 2 recording modes – more or unique files. If you select ‘more’ files mode, the recording will automatically stop if it doesn’t detect any sound. It will then record to a new file if there is another sound. A ‘unique’ file means it will record on one file non-stop once the recording starts, which will only stop when you press the on/off button in the app. [$2.99]

Top Secret Audio Recorder

Top Secret Audio (TSA) Recorder works like a picture-viewing app where you swipe left and right to view different pictures. However, the app starts recording the moment you tap on the picture. You can add your own pictures or use the ones that came with the app.
Since there is no recording interface, no one will know that you are recording audio. You can also passcode lock your recorded files for added security. Files can then be shared or extracted through iTunes. [Free]

This camera app has a few functions so people won’t know that you are actually recording a video. While the camera is recording a video, you can enable ‘Spy Mode’ to make it look like you’re browsing a website.

Secret Camera

Another photo-taking app, but this one has no shutter sound. You can also set the photos to not have any preview mode. If you want a discreet preview mode, you can use ‘Spy Mode’: there is a small thumbnail at the bottom corner of your screen, while the rest of the screen looks like a web browser.
That way, no one will know you are really taking photos. You can also passcode lock your pictures and can enable ‘Recovery Mode’ to recover any photos that you accidentally delete. [$0.99]
Secret Camera

Night Vision Camera

This app makes you feel like a spy on a mission as you can choose different scopes to look through the camera of your iPhone. Disabling Activity Posts from Facebook Apps [Quicktip]

Facebook activity feed or the ‘Facebook Wall’ is where you find updates of your friends’ activities. It is also where almost every marketing approach is most effective, due to the viral feature it offers. Any application you use on Facebook will try to access your Facebook Wall via posted activity updates, so it can receive more exposure towards a larger audience.

Disabling Activity Posts from Facebook Apps
It may not matter much to you what updates are posted on your wall, but not everyone likes their Facebook Wall to be flooded with unrelated content. And sometimes, you yourself may also want to hide certain activities you do with Facebook Apps for one reason or another.
Facebook has evolved to be a lot more flexible than it was before, and there is actually a way to hide or disable activity posts and updates from your Facebook Apps. In this tutorial, we will show you how.

Apps Option

Firstly, log in to your Facebook account and head over to the Apps Option page where you will be able to control your Apps updates.
  1. When you are already logged in, click on the arrow tab on the top right corner of your Facebok account, and go to ‘Account Settings’.

Disabling Activity Posts from Facebook Apps

  2.  In the Account Settings page, click on the left menu that says ‘Apps’.

Disabling Activity Posts from Facebook Apps

Disable Activity Posts

Now that you are in the App Settings page, you should be able to see a list of Apps already associated with your account via previous agreements you had agreed to whenever you start using an app on Facebook, or when you allow any third-party application to access your Facebook data.

Disabling Activity Posts from Facebook Apps
  1. Click on the ‘Edit’ link next to any particular App to make the changes you want to make.

Disabling Activity Posts from Facebook Apps

After clicking on the Edit link, the app’s column will expand to show some information of what the App can do to your Facebook account, the type of access it has and how it can post to your Facebook Wall.

  2. Look for ‘App Activity Privacy’, and change ‘Who can see posts and activity from this app on Facebook?’.
Disabling Activity Posts from Facebook Apps

You can change the visibility of the posts and activities from this app, expanding it to the public or limiting it to friends, family, or just yourself. If you want to totally hide the posts, simply select ‘Only Me’ so the activities and posts will not be visible to anyone else on Facebook.
Any changes you make on this page will reflect on your account automatically and immediately.

Conclusion

There will be a number of apps that you may have not used for quite some time. These apps will have access to information on your account and therefore it is best that you remove the app from your account. This can be done from the same page too. Otherwise, you can simply control who can see any activity updates from any particular app associated with your account.

MyStatusBar
How many of you spend your leisure time browsing through Facebook, and  waiting for notifications or messages from friends? I know many, if not most, of you people might. Facebook indeed is a great tool to stay in touch, and many people, like me, log on solely to communicate with their friends. But who has the time to wait on the Facebook site for their friends to appear, or to check their Facebook periodically? Using MyStatusBar, you can now get Facebook notifications outside the Facebook site, leaving you free to browse through the internet and do your work.

MyStatusBar

MyStatusBar is a browser extension available for Chrome and Firefox, since those are the two most popular web browsers. It's a useful little tool that will give you real-time information about your Facebook updates, so you will see new messages or notifications as soon as you receive them.

Install MyStatusBar

Go to the MyStatusBar Download page on Chrome Web Store, and then click on the Add To Chrome Button on the top-right. Your download will initiate in a few seconds, and the installation will be started automatically. Your browser might need to restart for the changes to take effect.

Once installed, you will be redirected, and will see a bar at the bottom of your browser. Click on the Login to Facebook button as shown.

Login to Facebook

Now, a window will open which will ask confirmation for logging into Facebook. Next, you will see a list of permissions that MyStatusBar seeks in order to function. Click on Allow, and you're all set!

Now, you'll see a bar at the bottom of your browser. This will show all your messages, friend requests, and notifications, just like you see them on your Facebook header. And no matter what website you're on, this bar will always be there at your convenience.

MSB Facebook Bar

You can also see a a mini feed from your latest news feed, and you can scroll up and down to see what your friends are up to. There's also a search bar where you can search Facebook without even opening the website! Annoyingly though, there's an ad spot too, which takes up space where something useful could've been. There's a 'x' (close) button that will let you minimize the bar, which is handy if you want the full space of the website you're working on.

HELP FOR INSTALLATION

(Firefox version)
(Chrome version)

All-in-all though, it's quite a useful utility. It's one for the Facebook fanatics out there who don't want to keep their eyes off the notifications bar for long! For them, staying on Facebook just got easier. Enjoy and share :)
